Christina Hendricks' 'perfect' Emmy dress

Christina Hendricks fell "in love" with the lilac Zac Posen dress she wore to the Emmy Awards as soon as she saw it.

The actress portrays Joan Holloway in US drama Mad Men, which was named best TV drama for the third year in a row.

Christina is renowned for her voluptuous figure, and showed it off in the dress which boasted a deep V at the front, and was fitted to accentuate her small waist.

The star knew the gown was the perfect choice when she first laid eyes on it, and was thrilled when she tried it on and realised it didn't need much altering.

"I saw it in his collection, and I was in love with it. I've been wanting to wear this dress, this colour, for a long time. It just reminded me of Old Hollywood," she told People magazine.

"All they had to do was tweak the shoulders a little bit to make sure they were the right length, and it was a perfect!"

Christina added she was pleased her choice was praised by industry professionals as she is never sure whether she has gone the right way. She tries not to obsess about what she wears to ceremonies, often deciding on a dress quickly and with minimum fuss.

Stylist Jessica Paster was bowled over by Christina's Posen gown, saying it was the perfect choice for her curves.

"It was made for her, and it's a beautiful colour, and the feathers added a little pizazz to it," she said.

Actress-and-singer Jessica Simpson was also a fan, even taking to Twitter to discuss it.

"Christina Hendricks is my pick for the Emmys' best-dressed lady ... Kyra Sedgwick comes in as runner-up!" she wrote.

Christina's co-star January Jones wore a bright blue Versace gown, which split opinion. The gown included a tight-fitted bodice, while the skirt fanned out and was long at the back and short at the front.

"Donatella's been so generous to me. I saw this in Italian Vogue a few months ago and asked for it," January explained. "It's hard to get a couture dress. I'm a little bit worried about sitting in it all night."

Blue was a theme at the event, with a number of stars, including Glee's Lea Michele, also opting for the colour. She donned a figure-hugging Oscar de la Renta dress with ruffled detailing, and was praised by the creative director of the American edition of Elle magazine Joe Zee.

"We've seen a lot of blue on the red carpet and I think you are by far the best," he said. "You are red carpet rock star tonight. You have my vote for best dressed tonight."

One Tree Hill Nabs Emmy Nominee as Julian's Mom

An Emmy Award nominee is coming to One Tree Hill.

Veteran actress Sharon Lawrence, who earned the aforementioned nomination for guest-starring as Izzie's mother on Grey's Anatomy, has landed a similar role on this CW hit: she'll play Julian's mother, EW reports.

It's safe to assume this character will show up to assist with wedding planning. She'll make her first appearance on October 6 and is slated for an unannounced number of episodes.

You know what we don’t see enough of on the red carpet? Pattern. Most people go for solids or sparkles, and relatively few choose a truly beautiful print. Hopefully other starlets will be inspired by True Blood star Rutina Wesley’s Douglas Arnette gown.

The dress was hand-painted with a black and white pattern for the actress, and she chose to use the dress’s high slit to her best advantage, proudly showing off her long legs and a pair of totally hot Christian Louboutin platforms under her dress. The pictures of the ensemble don’t look as nice as it seemed on camera, and it’s hard to get an idea of the pattern’s scope, but it’s a direction that I wish more red carpet trotters would explore. When everyone’s choosing solids, there’s no better way to stand out.

Triumph for gay actors and characters at the Emmy Awards

Jane Lynch won an Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy award last night for her performance in the US television series Glee.

Lynch, who married her partner Dr Lara Embry in May this year, was presented with the award for her turn as fearsome sports coach, Sue Sylvester, at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

In her acceptance speech Ms Lynch said: "I want to thank my parents on the South Side of Chicago for raising us to the sounds of musical theater and being so unintentionally hilarious. I love being an actor. I love being an ensemble."

She added: "[actors] have no choice or any marketable skills. I have to thank my lord and creator [Glee originator] Ryan Murphy for creating this role of a lifetime and the cast who are so young and fresh-faced, and when I'm not seething with jealousy, I'm so proud of you. And I love you my wife Laura and my little girl, Haden."

Ryan Murphy also received an award for Best Direction of a Comedy. The award for Outstanding Supporting Actor went to Eric Stonestreet for playing a gay dad in ABC hit, Modern Family. To see Lynch's acceptance speech, scroll down.

Temple Grandin Bags Seven Emmy Awards

Los Angeles, Aug 31, The 62md PrimeTime Emmy Awards which was held with much elan at Nokia Theater in Los Angeles witnessed some of the most celebrated television works bestowed with their due recognition. Like previous years, even this time round, HBO dominated the much-coveted television awards registering a number of Emmys in a variety of categories. However, it was the TV movie “Temple Grandin” that was shown on the cable network turned out to be the big winner of the night as it took home as many as seven honors which included three acting awards.

The HBO miniseries “Temple Grandin” which tells the true story of an autistic woman who plays a pivotal role in reforming slaughterhouses, has received nominations in as many as 15 categories which in itself tells its story of success. The 63-year-old woman on whom the miniseries is based was also present in the gala award ceremony last night who cheered boisterously every time “Temple Grandin” was declared a winner in a particular category. Although in her remarkable life, Temple Grandin has many inspirational stories to tell, her big win at the Emmy night was something that she will definitely cherish for the rest of her life.

While reacting to the multiple honors that the TV movie based on her life received, a delighted Temple Grandin told the media later that the recognition that had been bestowed on the film was really hard to believe. The HBO series showcases her life as an autistic child and follows her as she begins her career as a food-animal welfare and equipment designer.

Well it happened. Vampires have taken over the world. Is Twilight and True Blood really influencing fashion trends? This is worse than Reality Stars on DWTS and being invited to the Emmys! Make it stop. Nevertheless, navy and black ruled the red carpet at the 2010 Emmys last night, at least if you made the best dressed list. Who was more frightening than vampires last night? That would be anyone in lavender, gold and white!

Claire Danes Armani Prive gold number looked like an SNL impersonation of Paris Hilton. Her hair and makeup was a wreck! She is usually stunning and for that matter so would be an Armani Prive gown. What happened? I’ll tell you. She got the same bad fashion advice as Ana Paquin and Sofia Vergara. Gold is a fall trend for makeup and ready to wear but not for the red carpet! Same goes for animal print. Oh Sofia Vergara, what were you thinking? Stop channeling Charo! Her top half was stuffed so tight it looked like her snake swallowed two cantaloupes. She misses it every awards. I was so disappointed in Kim Kardashian’s white toga. Why would a girl with her assets hide it? If you are going to do white do it like Rose Byrne. Her gown although very gorgeous she rounds out the worst list because of that hair! Uhh, Kramer called…? Lavender and navy is trending in makeup for fall; and with navy being the biggest trend on Emmy night, I have to address possibly the worst red carpet blunder since Cher or Bai Ling. Christina Hendricks who makes my worst dressed list every year got Punked again by her styling team in her lavender Zac Posen. Christina, I am BEGGING you to steal some of your Mad Men wardrobe and fire that glamsquad!

I am beside myself at the gorgeous transformation of Kelly Osbourne! She nailed it! This was a makeover that started on the inside and really showed. I am so proud of her. Kelly has blossomed into a lovely young lady. And speaking of lady, can you say hot? Heidi Klum did it again in this super sexy Marchesa mini. It’s hard to pull of that length at a red carpet generally reserved for gowns. Gotta love her; but no one could touch the belle of the ball, Glee’s Lea Michele in the master of the red carpet Oscar de la Renta. Her Lorraine Schwartz choker, navy flamenco gown, super sexy hair and kitten makeup stole the show. She could be the new Penelope Cruz. Before I reveal my best and worst I have to ask what you think of January Jones? Her hair and makeup looked like she just rolled out of bed, but her structured blue Versace Atlier gown was a risk that I think she pulled off beautifully. Not many women could fit that gown quite like she did.

Okay, I guess it will be no surprise that my biggest nightmare was Christina Hendricks in Zac Posen and the best dressed of the night is Lea Michele. Tell me what you think of all these picks! Cheers glamsquad! xoxo

Jimmy Fallon makes nice as host of Emmys

As host of Sunday's Emmy broadcast, Jimmy Fallon struck a clear contrast to last year's host, Neil Patrick Harris, who wowed viewers with his sleek versatility and cool.

Fallon is a versatile performer, too, but the Harris brand of show-biz smooth just isn't part of his skill set.

Instead, Fallon is puppy-dog eager, a nice guy who wants to accommodate his guests and his audience. He's a TV star who never pulls rank, a celebrity who seems to see himself as an equal to his fans. As he's demonstrated since taking over "Late Night" 18 months ago, that's not the worst thing for a TV personality to be.

He demonstrated it all again on the Emmycast, aired live by NBC from Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre.

The show started with a bang as Fallon bumped into the stars from "Glee," who complained that, in the spirit of the high school students they play, they couldn't afford the tickets to the Emmycast. Solution: Put on a show to raise money! "Glee" stars joined forces with Tina Fey ("30 Rock"), Jon Hamm ("Mad Men"), Jorge Garcia ("Lost"), Randy Jackson ("American Idol") and others in a song-and-dance rendition of "Born to Run," complete with Fallon in jeans and white T-shirt channeling Bruce Springsteen.

Then, in brief opening remarks, he scored a bulls-eye when he explained that "NBC asked me, the host of 'Late Night,' to come to Los Angeles to host a different show. What could possibly go wrong?"

Cut to Conan O'Brien, Fallon's "Late Night" predecessor and the short-lived host of "Tonight," seated in the hall giving the camera a world-weary nod.

The broadcast was neatly divided into genres (comedy, reality, drama, variety, and miniseries and movies), each of which Fallon introduced with a few riffs accompanied by guitar and a different star beside him. The reality category was introduced by "they don't have writers and they don't have plots, they're the only thing on TV that people still watch."

The show's brisk pace was assisted by the occasional brief but funny filmed bit, such as suggestions for how to improve the ABC comedy (and soon-to-be-Emmy-winner) "Modern Family": Have the show's gay couple adopt a second child, Stewie, the tyrannical baby from the cartoon series "Family Guy"; film the show in 3-D to highlight cast member Sofia Vergara's voluptuousness; and swap out one of the male regulars for George Clooney.

Fallon proved himself a quick-change artist as he performed a musical tribute to beloved drama series that ended their runs last season.

Glitzed up as Elton John at a pink piano, he marveled to the tune of "Candle in the Wind" that "24" hero Jack Bauer "never went to the men's room, how did he hold it in?" And as Green Day's Billie Jo Armstrong, he wailed a farewell to "Lost": "The island, it was mystical, and in the end they died. I didn't understand it, but I tried."

Presenter Ricky Gervais was predictably a hoot. He wondered aloud why the Golden Globes serves alcohol to those in attendance, but not the Emmys.

"Who wants a beer?" he trumpeted as waiters arrived, dispensing beer to the theater's first few rows.

Then he expressed sly delight that the winner of his designated category (directing for a variety, music or comedy special) was named Bucky Gunts.

Christina Hendricks Emmys 2010: 'Mad Men' star 'still struggling' for designers to loan her dresses

"Mad Men" star Christina Hendricks flaunted her curves at the Emmy Awards Sunday night, but getting to the red carpet may not have been the easiest feat.

Last week, the sultry actress told the Daily Record that she still finds it difficult to borrow dresses from high-end designers.

"People have been saying some nice, wonderful things about me. Yet not one designer in town will loan me a dress," Hendricks, 35, told the Scottish newspaper. "They only lend out a size 0 or 2. So I'm still struggling for someone to give me a darn dress."

In the end, the size-14 actress, who usually dons designs by L'Wren Scott and Christian Siriano, opted to wear a lavender Zac Posen gown to the star-studded event.

"This has always been my size. I've worked on other shows with this same size but 'Mad Men' celebrates it and that is nice," added Hendricks, who plays office manager Joan Holloway on the hit AMC drama.

Thanks to the red-hot actress, whose measurements are reportedly 39D-30-39, having an hourglass figure has become even more acceptable in Hollywood. As a result, Hendricks has never felt any pressure to change her appearance.

"In fact, the series I was on before was called 'Kevin Hill.' At one point, just from going through a break-up, I was down and losing some weight without even knowing it," she revealed. "Taye Diggs came up to me and was like, 'What are you doing? Stop. Just stop whatever it is you are doing."

She added, "People have always been complimentary - and now I get even more compliments thanks to 'Mad Men.' "

Kate Gosselin at Emmys: Lookin' for a Job (and a Man)

Kate Gosselin was a woman on a mission last night at the Emmy Awards, telling friends it was the perfect venue to find a new acting job and, yep, a new man.

"Kate has made her mind up that she's going to be an actress and hopes her new profession will result in her finding a new man," a friend of the mom 'o eight tells me, explaining that she saw the Emmys as the "perfect place" to network with casting directors and producers.

I'm told Kate has really enjoyed being a reality (and 'DWTS') star, but now she's ditching reality to focus on scripted work in an effort to be the next Edie Falco or, if she's looking to get into comedy, Tina Fey. Wait, that IS funny!

"The show she would really like to be cast in is 'Mad Men,'" my source deadpanned.

You have to admire Kate's confidence. Anyone else might feel a little intimidated walking the same red carpet as some of television's best-loved actors, including the legendary Betty White, but not the star 'Kate Plus 8.' Sources tell me she felt at home on the red carpet, but was a tad disappointed she didn't get a chance to meet George Clooney.

"Kate looks at the happiness of couples who met on sets together -- Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer and Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks come to mind -- and believes that's how she is going to find love again," an insider tells me. "She has it all planned out and won't take no for an answer."

Emmy Awards 2010: "Modern Family," "Mad Men" Receive Top Honors

American life past and present proved a winning formula at Sunday night's Primetime Emmy Awards as "Mad Men" earned its third consecutive Outstanding Drama Series award and newcomer "Modern Family" ended the three-year winning streak held by "30 Rock" for Outstanding Comedy Series.

"To our fans, we are so grateful, we are so thrilled that families are sitting down together to watch a television show, and we're so happy that you have let us into your families," said "Modern Family" executive producer Steven Levitan.

The award was the first for the freshman sitcom, which also captured the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series award for Eric Stonestreet and a best writing trophy.

"All I wanted to be was a clown in the circus when I was a kid growing up," said Stonestreet, who plays a boisterous gay dad and partner. He thanked his parents for their support and promised to send his trophy home with them.

"Glee," the musical-comedy that started the night as the most-nominated series, earned an acting trophy for Jane Lynch and a directing award for creator Ryan Murphy.

Lynch thanked show creator Ryan Murphy for "creating this role of a lifetime" when she accepted the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series award from presenter Stephen Colbert. She also thanked her folks along with her wife, Lara Embry. The pair married in Massachusetts in May.

Bryan Cranston's portrayal of a meth dealer in "Breaking Bad" and Kyra Sedgwick's role as a brassy deputy police chief in "The Closer" earned the pair the night's top drama acting honors.

Cranston's award was his third trophy for his role of a high school teacher gone wrong, while his co-star, Aaron Paul, earned his first award as best supporting actor for the series.

"During the time it took me to walk up here, I venture there were 200 text messages to the other nominees saying, 'You were robbed.' I cannot argue with that," Cranston said.

Archie Panjabi of "The Good Wife" was honored as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her part as a law-firm's in-house private investigator, as Emmy voters spread the riches widely among veterans and fresh faces.

Edie Falco of "Nurse Jackie" and Jim Parsons of "The Big Bang Theory" were recognized with the awards for their comedy series lead roles.

Parsons ended the two-year streak held by Alec Baldwin for his role on "30 Rock" and beat out other heavyweights including Tony Shalhoub, nominated for the final season of "Monk" and a three-time winner, and Steve Carell of "The Office."

"Now I know how much I didn't think this was going to happen. Some of you apparently voted for me. That was very sweet," Parsons told the theater audience.

Falco's trophy for her role as a tough but troubled nurse came after her hallmark role as a mob boss' wife in "The Sopranos," for which she won three best drama actress Emmys.

"Oh, this is the most ridiculous thing that has ever happened in the history of this awards show. I'm not funny!" Falco said as she accepted her award.

Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" won its eighth consecutive Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy series. The victory kept Conan O'Brien from claiming an Emmy for his short-lived stint as "Tonight" host and also deprived nominee "Saturday Night Live" of a trophy for its episode with host Betty White (though White took home the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her stint hosting the show at last weekend's Creative Arts Emmys).

"Top Chef" also came out on top, winning Outstanding Reality Competition Program and ending the seven-year winning streak of "The Amazing Race."

George Clooney accepted the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award from his former "ER" co-star, Julianna Margulies, who lauded his fundraising efforts for victims of this year's earthquake in Haiti, the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Clooney, recalling evenings spent with Hope and his wife, Dolores, at the home of his aunt, singer Rosemary Clooney, called the couple his inspiration.

"If you look at everything they accomplished in their lives ... They're the best version of the term 'celebrity,'" Clooney said.

Jewel sang her song "Hole in My Heart" during a memorial tribute to prominent TV figures, including Robert Culp, Soupy Sales, Dixie Carter, Gary Coleman, John Forsythe and "Roots" producer David L. Wolper.

"Temple Grandin," based on the life of the gifted, autistic animal sciences expert, was honored as best TV movie and earned Emmys for its star, Claire Danes, and supporting acting trophies for Julia Ormond and David Strathairn. The film's director, Mick Jackson, also received recognition.

Al Pacino was honored as best lead actor in a miniseries or movie for "You Don't Know Jack," about euthanasia advocate Dr. Jack Kevorkian, who was in the audience and stood, smiling, at Pacino's request. The controversial physician received scattered applause.

Host Jimmy Fallon opened the show on a musical note, performing a song-and-dance number with the cast of "Glee" and a wildly mismatched group of celebrities including Jon Hamm and Tina Fey.

There was also an appearance by Kate Gosselin in her "Dancing with the Stars" costume (the group declined to let her join their makeshift glee club), and Betty White, who showed Hamm some sexy dance moves.

Much of the group ended up on stage at the Nokia Theatre to kick off the awards with a high-energy version of "Born to Run," with Fallon on guitar performing with "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson.

"Tonight we're going to celebrate your work," Fallon told the audience. "So let's have some fun tonight."

The public had a hand in writing some of Fallon's material through Twitter.

The show aired live nationwide after three decades of tape-delay broadcasts for the West Coast.

HBO came into the ceremony as the kingpin after claiming 17 awards at the Aug. 21 creative arts Emmys, followed by ABC with 15 and Fox with nine. CBS, NBC and PBS each claimed seven.

By the show's end, HBO again was on top with eight trophies. AMC received four, ABC and CBS had three and Fox and Showtime had two. NBC, Comedy Central, Bravo and TNT earned one award each.

"The Pacific," the World War II drama produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, received the best miniseries award in a category it shared with one other nominee, "Return to Cranford." "The Pacific" was the was the top nominee with 24 bids and captured a leading seven creative arts awards, which recognize technical and other achievements.

While a film director may have a general idea of how a scene should look, it is the responsibility of a cinematographer to make it happen. They are the ones who frame each shot according to the script and the director's personal vision.

With over 20 years in the film industry, Thomas McKenny has had a lot of experience. He knows what looks good, what looks bad and what is an absolute work of art. He's worked with Angelina Jolie, Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman to name a few. It doesn't matter if he's worked with big names or with indie productions he offers a cinematographers perspective on what makes a good actor.

1. First lets start with something easy - You won an Emmy! What for?

After a few nominations, I got it for a mini-documentary that I did on pre-Rose Parade coverage. I shot two WWII Air Men, walking the interior of a mock up of their plane.

Interesting story, we arrived at Chino Airport, California--normally an arid climate--it was raining. The producer lamented that we'd have to do the interview inside an office. I jumped up and said that the rain was perfect, and as they still fit into their old uniforms, I put them and my camera under a wing of the aircraft. The look and sound of the rain "put" them back in time in England waiting for the European Invasion.

2. How can an actor help the cinematographer get the shot they need?
There is a variety of ways they can do this. First, you should know that there is a big pressure on everyone to work fast and get the shot. Collaboration is key, help me, help you.

Real life happens but getting yourself to the set on time, prepared with a good attitude is key. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

An actor should always come prepared to the set. Be professional. An actor needs to realize that we are all on the same team and that we are all working towards the same goal.

Also, an actor should know their lines and having a sense of feeling their mark or how to hit it. From a cinematographer's perspective, if they know how to use the light and work with it then it makes our job easier.

3. How does an actor learn to do this?
You need to be more alert to your surroundings. For example, if you watch a drivers face while you are sitting in the passenger's seat you can see light passes over the face when they pass a tree or building. If an actor understands how light changes then they can work with it. Eventually, you can feel the light on your face.

Here's a great tip for exterior shots. If a light is shinning in your face and you feel like you are squinting, close your eyes tight for 30 seconds and stare at the sun, then open your eyes where the director has you looking - you will find that this is much easier as your pupils have constricted.

4. How much interaction does a cinematographer and an actor have on set?
It varies, based on the production, who the DP and camera operator is. Our job is to create a space for you tom act. The actor doesn't need eight people to talk to them out there. We in the camera department can assist actors to find where they will look best.

5. How do actors get hired again just from their attitude on set?
"How you show up is how you show up." If you show up prepared and are professional then often you will be asked back, if not on this production, on another. People talk in this business and someone will talk to someone else and say how great you were. The industry is small and I've heard that casting agents talk to each other about good actors and bad.

On the flip side, there are those that get hired beyond that because they are great at inhabiting the character, their attitude might be difficult but they nail the role. I wouldn't count on this starting out, however. I remember one actor that didn't know his lines on set. He was too busy networking for his next role, As much as I didn't like him, we found his talent in the editing. He actually gave the production a lot to work with. If I were ever to hire him for another my projects, I'd have a talk with him. though I'm undecided as to whether to hire him again.

6. What does a veteran actor do on set that sets them apart from the rest?
The really great ones make you think that you could do what they are doing. That's how good they are. They raise the bar for everyone involved.

7. How should an actor treat the crew while working on set?
With courtesy and respect. if you give that it will be returned.

8. How do some big named actors treat the crew?
Tom Hanks is great; he's known for getting coffee for people that are busy when he has time. The A listers are confident in what they do, so they don't need to prove anything. Think of Martial Arts Black Belts. They have nothing to prove. They make me want to bring my A game.

When Tom Cruise shows up, he goes around and gives everyone his or her moment. He talks to everyone on set. He gives a firm handshake, that sudden look in the eye and easy smile.

One thing these people do is take charge of the room - it's charisma, I don't know if that can be taught.

9. Do you find that sometimes actors aren't respectful?
Not intentionally. I had an actor/producer that was watching performances instead of getting his make-up done, the crew lost time because of this. That can be frustrating.

If an actor /crew is having a problem, talk it out privately and move on. Once the scene or the shoot is over its nice to say thanks and nice working with you. We all hope to work together again.

Appreciating what goes with any collaborative process, things will go wrong, it is how we handle things then separates the pros from the rest. How do you react in bad situation is key. Do you roll your eyes and pout? Or go off to craft services? Or do you stay there and get it done?

10. Are there any actors that you have worked with that were easy to shoot? Why?
There are a lot of good ones. Dustin Hoffman is awesome--and I don't use that word lightly. He always gives a bit extra. He gets to know the crew because he already knows his character and pays attention to those around him. He is a team player and fun to be with.

11. What other advice can your offer?
The slower you go the faster you get there. Take your time to get it right the first time. If we are shooting on film it can be quite expensive, we don't have the luxury to have a rolling tape. You need to be prepared and patient with the process.

What are you doing right now to prepare for the next gig? If you can, donate your time to indie projects; do things to keep your chops up. As "a writer writes" so an actor acts.

You have an audience that has tuned in or logged on to your performance. The people that really succeed in this business understand that they owe this to the audience. Above all, my mantra is 'serve the story.'

Emmy Awards 2010: British actress Archie Panjabi wins best supporting actress

Panjabi, who made her name in British hit films East is East and Bend It Like Beckham, won an Emmy for her role as a law firm's in-house private investigator in her hit TV show.

The 38-year-old triumphed over fellow The Good Wife actress Christine Baranski and Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss.

However, other high-profile British nominees Michael Sheen, Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Judi Dench failed to take to the stage and pick up a coveted gong.

Sheen was nominated for best actor in a mini series or TV movie for The Special Relationship, a film in which he reprised his role as Tony Blair.

But he lost out to Al Pacino, who won a rare TV gong for You Don't Know Jack. Sir Ian also missed out to Pacino in the category.

Maggie Smith and Dame Judi were both nominated in the female equivalent section. But they lost out to Claire Danes who won an award for her performance in Temple Grandin.

Hugh Laurie also missed out yet again on an Emmy.

The comedian turned actor has been nominated for his role as doctor Gregory House in the eponymous show five times.

But he went home empty handed as Bryan Cranston took the title of outstanding actor in a drama for his performance in Breaking Bad.
